Our Coaching Team

Paul Nixon

PAUL NIXON

is the founder of Epicenter Group. He is a pastor, coach, ministry strategist and student of culture. He lives in downtown Washington DC, with an office on K Street. He operates in multiple time zones and cultural contexts each week. An author of eight books, Paul teaches in all sorts of venues from online cohorts to regional seminars to a course at Wesley Theological Seminary. Paul Nixon was doing multi-site before that was a word. Paul planted one of the earliest campuses of a multi-site Protestant congregation, in the 1990s, a site that grew well past 1000 worshippers a week. Paul has been thinking, coaching and working around issues of multi-site ministry longer than almost any other coach or consultant around. Paul is co-creator of the Readiness 360 tool helping churches measure and cultivate their capacity for multiplying ministry. More than 1000 American congregations have used the 360, with hundreds more coming along each year, generating one of the best databases on church vitality anywhere. (READINESS 360) Paul has been coach to the fastest growing mainline Protestant church in the United States (Embrace Church Sioux Falls). He also has worked with Urban Village Chicago, City Square Phoenix, After Hours Denver, New Day Bronx, The Loft@Westwood in LA, Valley Praise in Harlingen, Texas. Broken Builders in NYC, RISE in Harrisonburg VA, The Gathering Virginia Beach, West UMC in Mooresville NC, Hope.Gate.Way in Portland, Maine, and many other creative new ministries.

BETH ESTOCK

has coached more church plants in the NONE and DONE zones of the USA than anyone else we know in the mainline denominations. She is a pastor, cultural architect, yoga instructor and futurist, integrating multiple theories of cultural evolution into her work. Her pastoral work began in the Atlanta area, but shifted to the Pacific Northwest two decades ago. She and her husband, Jeff, and two daughters live in Portland, one of the funkiest American cities that forecasts many of the cultural shifts that are happening quickly elsewhere as Christendom becomes a foggy twentieth century memory. During her Oregon years, Beth has served as a pastor in conventional churches as well as house churches, and served as Director of New Faith Communities for the Oregon-Idaho Conference of The United Methodist Church. Beth coaches leaders and churches with a no-nonsense approach to facing the current cultural realities while also seeking faithfulness to Christian faith traditions. Her approach is steeped in contemplative practices that help to give shape to innovation. She works with progressive churches on both coasts, plus several in-between – in Austin, Texas and Chicago, etc. Beth is among the most proficient interpreters of the Readiness 360 inventory in the world. Beth and Paul Nixon co-authored a ground-breaking work on the future of American Christianity: Weird Church: Welcome to the Twenty-First Century.

PAUL MOON

is a pastor, coach, and practicing ministry strategist combining his backgrounds as a practical theologian, a CEO at IT Company, and a research engineer for cutting-edge military high-tech applications. He enjoys his critical and creative thinking, theological reflection, and innovative approaches to his context-based coaching. He is a founder of ChurchParadigm, which provides a “relational pastoral ministry toolbox” to help, since 2000, more than 1000 leaders of religious and non-profit organizations be proactive about meeting emerging needs in the digital age. He has been a church planter since 2007 after serving two mega churches in New York and New Jersey since 2002. His trend tracking analysis and plausible future scenario extrapolation did not just appear on paper as he brought them into an action in the form of new church-starts since 2006 for the next 11 years. One of them, in Manhattan, New York, was chartered in The United Methodist Church within three years under the multi-cultural leadership in their 20s and 30s. This young congregation had successfully launched a multisite by transferring her DNA of cultural competence and virality of the community. Within 18 months, this project resulted in planting five new faith communities at three different sites. Path1: New Church Start of The United Methodist Church recommended the congregation highly as “a thriving, vital, and new multiplying church in the Northeast Jurisdiction.” He has been teaching in seminars, conferences, lectures, and even during conversations over a cup of coffee at Theological Seminaries, and events at Conference and District-levels. He has also consulted Fortune 500 companies over two decades, including Samsung and LG for their eBusiness need for innovative solutions.

TREY HALL

is an urban church strategist, marathon runner, and failed improv comedy student. Since 2000, he has pastored churches in the United Kingdom and in Chicago, where he has led successful church redevelopment projects and most recently launched Urban Village Church – a radically inclusive Gospel community that has started four sites in six years, reached mostly Millennial and Gen X people, and has become one of the fastest-growing congregations in the city. As a ministry coach, Trey has also created a transformative training and coaching ground for young leaders called to engage cultural and church change. In addition to coaching planters in other contexts, Trey designed the Internship/Residency program at Urban Village, which has formed more than 30 leaders in the past five years, 30% of whom have gone on to launch new communities in different neighborhoods across the US. In 2016, Trey opened Epicenter’s first ministry office outside of the US, in Birmingham, United Kingdom, and helps coach and resource the church starting and church redevelopment movement in the Britain and Europe. He also coaches and teaches regularly in the United States, working to understand and interpret learnings from ministry in largely secular Europe for the increasingly secular American context.
